The NBA has launched an investigation into the actions of the Hawks guard Dijonte Murray After Sunday’s 129-121 loss to the Celtics, according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.
As he was leaving the court, Murray contacted the referee, Gediminas Petritis. Murray also pointed and shouted at someone before teammates and staff directed him into the locker room.
The Hawks did not release Murray to the media after the game, so he was unable to explain what happened.
Bontemps points out that the league usually imposes bans on players who communicate with officials. He cites the example of Celtics forward Grant Williams, who was suspended for one game after being sent off in October.
Bontemps also points out that suspension decisions in the playoffs are usually made before the next game in the series, which means any discipline for Murray can be announced on Monday. The two teams will meet again on Tuesday night in Boston, where the Celtics lead 3-1.
Murray was one of Atlanta’s most productive players in the series, averaging 25.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 2.3 steals over the first four games.
