According to Shams Al Sharania of The Athletic, who was speaking on A.J July 11th episode of “The Pat McAfee Show” Lillard has “something similar” to a no-trade clause.
Charania was referring to the fact that teams around the NBA are unlikely to trade a disgruntled superstar.
“He wants to be in Miami, period,” Charania said. “And if you trade for him, I think there’s the risk of trading for a disaffected player. My sense is there won’t be a team out there. Ms. Lillard is about that age entering his mid-30s, obviously we know she has several years left of playing at a high level.” .
You don’t want to trade with a guy you can bring up, and then he’ll either be disgruntled, or unhappy, and might ask again. So I think he doesn’t have a no-trade clause, but he kind of has something similar to that right now.”
