Five candidates off-season acquisition
Jacob Stoller from The Hockey News: five candidates off-season acquisitions.
Oliver Ekman Larson Vancouver Canucks – Four years left, $7.26 million. It is almost untradable even with a 50 percent hold. The acquisition will cost $146,667, $2,346,667, two years $4,766,667, then four years $2,126,667.
Tony DiAngelo – Philadelphia Flyers – Acquisition will cost $1,666,667 for two years if no deal goes through. Keeping some paycheck may help in the trade.
NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers – Ivan Provorov, Carter Hart and Tony DeAngelo
Cal Petersen – Los Angeles Kings – is unsuccessful after signing a three-year, $15 million contract extension. Two years remained on the $5 million each, and the modified no-trade clause rendered it essentially worthless. It would have capped $5,166,667 this year, then three years of $1,166,667 if bought.
Ryan Souter – Dallas Stars – Still collecting buyout money from the Wild. He calculated two years at $783,333 and then two years at $1,433,333.
Blake Wheeler – Winnipeg Jets – The Jets will be looking to make some changes. They tried to trade him last season but they didn’t keep the money. This off-season purchase would count $2.75 million for two years. That would be a savings of $5.5 million this year.
Second line center options in the Colorado Avalanche
Peter Pugh from The AthleticColorado Avalanche was unable to re-sign Nazim Qadri Off last season, however JT Comfer‘UFA is pending this season, they will need to review their options for a second line position.
Internal Candidates: Mikko Rantanen (Was a suite and will be lower than TOI with Nathan McKinnonJT Compher (may have priced the Avs budget after a 52-point season), and Alex Newhawk (He’s still only 22 but might not be ready yet for the top six. It could be a risk.)
NHL rumours: Coloado Avalanche – JT Compher, Josh Manson and Corey Perry
External options: Mark Shevell (it will get high cost), Kevin Hayes (The Flyers will have to keep some of the $7,142,857 from Hayes), Nick Schmaltz (The cost will be high and there is a question whether a winger is better than a centre-back), Elias Lindholm (maybe the best but the flames are still trying to win), Adam Henrique (Ducks may get a better return at the trade deadline), and Ryan O’Reilly (UFA can get more on the open market.).
