After the 2022-23 NBA season ended without a playoff appearance for the Dallas Mavericks, the future of the series has become an important talking point, with it unknown what superstar Kyrie Irving will do once he becomes a free agent this summer.
Although there was a lot of buzz about him staying with the Mavericks and trying to get the dynamic duo to work with Luka Doncic, rumors continued to circulate right up until the start of NBA free agency.
Plenty of teams have been linked to Irving before free agency, like the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns, but it looks like it could be a simple decision for the veteran guard.
According to ESPN’s Tim McMahon, it is uncertain what the market is for Irving at the moment, leading to the assumption that he will re-sign with the Mavericks.
“There’s no clear market for Kyrie… All that being said, it looks like Kyrie Irving will eventually return to Dallas.”

At this point, it seems like no one really knows what’s going on with Irving, because he’s as unpredictable as any athlete, which could lead to a surprise once free agency kicks off on Friday afternoon.
Staying with the Mavericks makes the most sense for Irving, as the team clearly wants him back and he has the potential to play alongside one of the best players in the league.
Dallas may be a block or two away from Western Conference contention, with Irving back in the fold.
Still, joining the star-studded Suns is compelling, and possibly reuniting with superstar LeBron James in Los Angeles is interesting, but whether those options are realistic remains to be seen.
