UFC bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling targeted Henry Cejudo.
He faced off “The Funk Master” and “Triple C” in May in the main event of UFC 288. For Henry Cejudo, it was his first match in over three years, as he previously retired after his 2020 victory over Dominic Cruz. Meanwhile, Aljamin Sterling entered the contest after defeating TJ Dillashaw by stoppage last October.
At the bantamweight show earlier this year, the champion retained his title via split decision. After the match, Aljamain Sterling faced off with Sean O’Malley, which led to a booking at UFC 292 in August. However, for a minute, it looked like the bantamweight champion was going to refuse to fight.
At the time, Aljamin Sterling mentioned that he needed more time to compete in August. In response, Henry Cejudo offered to face Sugar instead, lashing out at the defending champion. The champion has already signed on to face O’Malley at the event, with the Olympian also added to the event in a fight with Marlon Vera.
Unfortunately, this match is now on hold, as Henry Cejudo pulled out due to injury last night. In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Aljamain Sterling slammed the former champion for withdrawing. The champion noted that Henry Cejudo had previously mocked him for worrying about turning quickly and risking injury.
