Former undisputed bantamweight and flyweight champion Henry Cejudo has confirmed his withdrawal from his scheduled UFC 292 bout with sixth seed Marlon Vera on August 19 at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, revealing that he has suffered from a shoulder injury.
The third-ranked bantamweight contender, Cejudo returned from a three-plus-year retirement from mixed martial arts at UFC 288 last month, headlining the New Jersey event in an unsuccessful fight for the bantamweight title to champ, Aljamin Sterling.
And on the back of the fight, despite initially being offered to fight Georgian challenger Merab Dvishvili in an officially first contender bout, Los Angeles-born Henry Cejudo has been booked to return against Vera at UFC 292 later this summer, amid Dvishvili’s hand injury.

But, tonight, the Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling, Cejudo confirmed that he is pulling out of his scheduled bout with Ecuadorian Vera, revealing that he has a torn shoulder.
“Some Important News” Henry Cejudo chirp. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete on August 19th at UFC 292. I have a tear in my right shoulder that requires rehabilitation. I wish I could get in there with Chito (Marlon Vera), but I won’t be able to make a full recovery in time.” .
At the time of publication, it was not revealed if Vera will remain at the pay-per-view event against a new opponent, or if the original Chone will be removed from the card in favor of a rescheduled match with Cejudo.
Prior to losing his bantamweight title challenge to his native Uniondale, Sterling, Cejudo defended the bantamweight title in the co-main event of UFC 249 in May 2020, stopping joint opponent and former bantamweight champion, Dominic Cruz with a victory at the second bell.
