In his exit interview on Sunday, Memphis Grizzlies Protect Dillon Brooks reflected on his comments towards LeBron James He said he did not think verbal jabs were uplifting Los Angeles Lakers The star in the series.
“That’s who I am,” said the Mississauga native. “I don’t regret it, I’m competitive, I compete. I don’t think it made LeBron a geek. He came back in the playoffs, it’s been a little while. So I think he was ready to play.”
“Overall we beat a better team. A bigger team, guys who have their whole team, the pieces right there.”
Brooks caused a social media storm after calling James “old” and saying “I poke bears” after Memphis tied the series at one.
In the next game, the 27-year-old received a hard 2-out foul for hitting James in the groin and was sent off early in the second half.
The Lakers ended up winning the series, led by James’ 22.2 points, 11.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists over the six games.
Meanwhile, Brooks struggled throughout the series, shooting just 31.2 percent from the field and 23.8 percent from three, only adding to the trash talk he gave early in the series.
“It’s who I am, this is who I’ll be. That’s who I am, that’s what I’ll be. At the end of the day, it’s just competition,” Brooks said when asked if his perception takes what he does on the court. “Most people are afraid of competition and that’s why they shake or feel some kind of way when they I play against them.
“I’m trying to compete at the highest level possible. That’s the only way to get into this league… I’m not going to change, I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing and getting better.”
Brooks is now an unrestricted free agent after his sixth season in Memphis. He has played in 345 games and averaged 14.5 points per game for his career.
