The PFL returns to us tonight, June 23, 2023, for PFL 6, coming down live from the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
The event was headlined by a lightweight meet between the 2022 champ Olivier Aubin-Mercier (19-5) and Challenger Series alum Anthony Romero (12-2)
Each of these Canadian talents have gone 1-0 so far in the 2023 season, after Mercier defeated fellow veteran Shane Burgos (UD) in April, and Romero after defeating Tony Caruso (UD) in February.
Read on to see how this lightweight main event turned out:
Official result: Olivier Aubin Mercier won. Anthony Romero by KO (knee) at: 28 in the third round
Mercier landed Romero throughout the opening round of this contest, connecting first with a heavy left hand for about two minutes into that wobbly Romero. But Romero hits a quick forehand to Mercier’s chin which momentarily stuns him, before he recovers and returns to his offense.
Mercier also controls the position, as well as hitting in the second, getting him ready for that resounding KO in the third round you see below.

Olivier Aubin-Mercier has only one knockout victory through his first 16 professional victories.
The win came in his 13th professional fight (11th win) when he TKO’d Evan Dunham when he got his knees to the body. But, Mercier only KO’d Stevie Ray in the finals last year to win the PFL Lightweight Championship, and after defeating Shane Burgos earlier in the year, Mercier picked up his third victory by knockout of the night at PFL 6.
This was a great night of fights, featuring eight finishes (4 KO’s, 3 TKO’s) with only four decisions, which is really uncharacteristic for PFL events.

I became a fan of combat sports when I was 12 years old. I was browsing channels and landed on Versus, which is where WEC was on TV. Uriah Faber fought Jens Pulver for the second time that night. This is the first fight I’ve ever seen, and I got addicted to it instantly. Eventually, I started covering the sport in the last quarter of 2018, and since then I’ve started writing about animals as well.
