All signs point to Zion Williamson and Pelicans breaking up after four years together. According to a source who spoke to Bill Simmons, the former first option will trade before Thursday.
“I had someone I trust yesterday tell me Zion won’t be on the Pelicans on Thursday,” Simmons said via NBA Retweet.
Williamson, who was a unanimous draft pick in 2019, has been dealing with health issues since entering the NBA. He played just 114 games over the four years in New Orleans. Zion missed the entire 2021-2022 season.
The Pelicans are poised to make moves to acquire Scoot Henderson, a top three draft pick in this year’s NBA draft. It is said that they are even considering trading Williamson, but the Hornets prefer Brandon Ingram instead.
An NBA insider, Brian Windhorst, recently said there is no connection between Zion and the Pelicans organization and little relationship with the players.
Williamson is on a five-year contract, valued at $194 million each crook.
