Brotherly Love City is going to see a lot of change this summer as General Manager Daniel Briere tries to make his mark on the Flyers.
Veteran striker Kevin Hayes is a name to watch. Chuck Fletcher apparently worked the phones up to the trade deadline and his dismissal to help arrange a move for Hayes, and the Columbus Blue Jackets were one of the teams he reportedly had in-depth conversations with. These discussions ultimately came to nothing, and shortly after the deadline, the Flyers relieved Fletcher of his duties.
Fourth quarterback Anthony DiMarco reports that the Flyers are willing to absorb $2 million of Kevin Hayes’ $7 million salary in order to reopen trade negotiations with the Blue Jackets.
Speaking to someone close to the situation on Monday, the Flyers feel making Hayes a $5 million player is fair value for what he brings on the ice. I don’t understand that’s a non-negotiable on their part, the person I spoke to seemed very firm in their belief in what they feel is He should be kept from Hayes’ AAV at $7.14 million over the next three seasons. The same person also told me the Flyers will be reconsidering trade discussions with Columbus between now and the Hayes-centric NHL draft.” DiMarco said.
Hayes, 30, has been one of the Flyers’ few bright spots this season as he set a new career high in points with 54 and 36 assists. It will be interesting to see if the Flyers are willing to eat $6 million of his salary over the seasons. the next three in order to move it and take advantage of the value it currently has in the market.
