For better than last year, NBA fans are used to seeing rave reports of Victor Wimpanyama’s outfield dominance. But, on Saturday, the celebrity phenomenon’s latest headlines told a much different story, thanks to a rare day off.
Wembanyama, the presumptive No. 1 pick in the June 22 NBA draft, started the 2023 Pro A Finals with a botched performance at the No. 2 seed Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 losing an 87–64 Game 1 loss to top seed Monaco.
In 27 minutes of play, Wimpanyama scored just eight points on 3-of-8 shooting, seven rebounds and two assists while adding another worthwhile blocked shot.

While Wembanyama may receive flack for his counting stats, the 7-foot-4 French big man still, by all accounts, shined a tantalizing two-way potential that made him one of the top favourites. Plus, Wembanyama and Metro 92 will have the chance to redeem themselves on Monday when the two teams meet in game two of their best-of-five championship series.
Despite the publicity, blowout loss and Wimpy’s difficulties will pile up, Saturday’s bid will have no bearing on the expected selection of the 19-year-old. spurs With the #1 overall pick later this month.
