The UFC returns to Sydney this fall with UFC 293 in the first of three pay-per-view events planned for the city over the next four years.
UFC President Dana White on Wednesday announced UFC 293 on Sept. 10, which has begun a partnership with the New South Wales government to boost the promotion’s presence in Harbor City. New South Wales Premier Chris Mines also announced the deal, which Perth now Reported as a $16 million partnership.
“We continue to secure a calendar of exclusive, diverse and unmissable events to boost our visitor economy, support local businesses and create more jobs, and that’s exactly what these UFC events will do,” said Means.
White did not disclose the location of the event, and UFC officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Previously, the promotion held events at the Qudos Bank Arena, formerly known as the AllPhones Arena. Her last outing was in 2017 for an event driven by Fabricio Werdum against Marcin Tebora.
The pay-per-view headliner has yet to be officially announced, but White said the winner of the UFC 290 fight between former champs Robert Whitaker and Dricos du Plessis is “targeted” to headline the corresponding event to current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Adesanya has a pair of wins over Whittaker, who gave up his belt to “The Last Stylebender” four years ago.
