“…and I wouldn’t be shocked, not to report this, was this behind-the-scenes speculation, that there was a possibility that Ken Holland could be promoted to President of Hockey Operations and Steve Staios promoted to General Manager.
And the Oilers can keep most of the hierarchy intact and give Steve Staius a bigger voice.

“What will Ivan Bouchard’s next contract look like? I know they will try to bridge him but does he want it? Is he ready to play ball? Does he want a long-term deal? And if he wants a long-term deal, what will the number look like?”
If you look at how important he was to the Oilers once the Tyson Barrie trade collapsed, and how much he stepped up his game. I mean, up until what Game 6, final 5 minutes of their season, has Bouchard been on the ice for four minutes of it? Like, they obviously believe in his game.
It won’t be cheap again, and I know what their plan is, and their desire to bridge them. I don’t know if that is possible, if it makes sense.

“On defense, they have some decisions to make. Do they feel Philip Broberg is ready to be a regular next year, and if he is, where does he get in? Because Brett Kolak has played great. He doesn’t take (Darnell) Nurse or (Matthias) Ekholm.
So where is Broberg’s place? Does he fit in and are they likely to consider another addition in right defence?
Cody Sissy didn’t have a great year, though, this year. I know it was messed up. It was pretty good the year before, and I think the challenge for any GM after that disappointing playoff loss is, do you just focus on that or do you have to take a step back and look at the broader picture. “
