Windham Clark is currently in the middle of the best year of his life – at least in terms of his performance on the golf course.
The 29-year-old just picked up his first-ever win at the Wells Fargo Championship, bringing his total winnings to over $6 million this season alone.
Winning a PGA Tour event is life-changing in many ways, and on this week’s episode of Subpar, Clarke shared his excitement for one particular feature guaranteed to full PGA Tour winners: a berth in the following year’s Masters.
“I have not been to Augusta National. Never, Clarke told hosts Colt Nost and Drew Stoltz. “I declined, I think three invitations now to go play, I know some guys have, but everything was, I’m not going to play it until I’m invited to play in the tournament.
“Obviously I’m going to go play practice rounds now that I’m in the tournament, but I’ve never played them.”
Clark then told a great story about the moment he remembered playing Augusta would be his reality.
On the heels of his Wells Fargo win in the Quail Hollow locker room, Clark said he’s been hanging out with Quail Hollow Golf Club President Johnny Harris, who’s also a member of the Augusta National.
“We all toast and drink and sign some stuff,” Clark said. And I think it was Johnny Harris, saying, ‘Hey Windham, do you want to join John and me for a training run in Augusta, maybe, I don’t know, December, January? I was like, Oh yeah, that would be great. And then I go, Oh! We’re at the Masters! And I’m honest — that was the first time it hit me. This is, like, two hours after winning.
“And everyone is like, ‘This really hit you?’ And I was like, ‘Okay, yeah. Sorry, I was in the winning zone. Like, I didn’t even think about all the cool stuff that comes with it.'”
