Michigan thought they had the conversion gate prize, but he was back in the market
Caleb Love, who entered the transfer portal nearly two months ago, is still looking for a new college basketball program to join. After initially committing to Michigan, and letting Michigan feel like it added a piece that would make it a national title contender, Love recently let go of the Wolverines due to issues with his credits from North Carolina not meeting Michigan transfer requirements. CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander broke the credits issue on Twitter:
The big transfer news: Sources tell CBS Sports Caleb Love will not be attending Michigan and will be back in the gate. first mentioned before @employeeAnd @employee.
Love did not have the post credits to transfer, according to sources. I was told that a return to UNC was not on the table.

So who are the new firsts?
There are several potential landing sites mentioned for Love, with Missouri and Indiana standing out as two notable options. Missouri seemed to have an advantage, given Love’s prior interest in the program during his initial recruiting out of high school, as well as its proximity to his hometown of St. Louis. Missouri had a successful season last year, winning 25 games, and head coach Dennis Gates can satisfy the allure of playing close to home and joining an upcoming program.
Indiana is another prospect for Love, giving him the opportunity to compete against Michigan in the regular season. Head coach Mike Woodson led the Hoosiers to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and created a positive trajectory for the program.
Kansas could also get into the love mix, especially given his former interest in the Jayhawks while he was a high school recruit. However, the Jayhawks have already added top talent to their roster this season, including transfers from Michigan and highly rated recruits, which could affect their pursuit of love.
Throughout his three-year tenure at North Carolina, Love demonstrated his scoring ability but struggled with shooting efficiency. Despite his shooting challenges, Love led the team in scoring during the 2022-23 season, averaging 16.7 points per game. Statistics aside, whoever wins the Caleb Love Lottery adds up a superstar with leadership qualities who played for one of the best players in the country.
