At one point, the New Orleans Pelicans looked like one of the most promising young teams in the NBA with an incredibly bright future ahead, with superstars Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson leading the way for the struggling franchise.
After numerous injury issues for Ingram and Williamson over the past few years, it’s anyone’s guess if this team will reach its true potential with both stars healthy and playing at the top of their game.
Coming into this season in the NBA, the Pelicans looked like a fierce team ready to turn things around, but instead, they haven’t done much outside of drafting Jordan Hawkins and signing Herb Jones to a long-term deal.
On Sunday, the quiet Pelicans made a move to deal front court, as the team reached a one-year deal with veteran center Cody Zeller, formerly of the Miami Heat, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Zeller’s signing obviously won’t move the needle much, as it only provides more depth in the frontcourt that already houses Larry Nance Jr. and Jonas Valanciunas.
However, it remains to be seen if the Pelican brass have another move coming, as the team clearly wasn’t looking to free agency to make a major upgrade to their roster.
However, the Pelicans are as talented a team as they are currently built and showed what they can do when healthy in the first half of last season, but those injuries piled up and squandered any chance of a deep playoff run.
