The Domino’s first assistant coach fell, as the New York Rangers hired Michael Peca as an assistant coach to Peter Laviolette’s staff. pica. Peca has been lately Assistant coach with the Rochester Americans. They lost in the Conference Final this season. Prior to his two seasons with Rochester, Becca was a developmental coach with the Washington Capitals, overlapping with Laviolette’s time there.
Peca comes with a bit of an ego from his OJHL coaching days, which is a good thing. Maybe the Rangers need that kind of guy behind the bench, who can get them moving and be a little tougher than a head coach. Laviolette is known for being a sweet boss, and she also knows how to push the right buttons. Peca balances that out a bit with his approach.
Considering that Peca has OJHL experience and was a development coach, this seems like a very targeted hire. Maybe this will finally help Alexis Lafreniere.
