John Rahm still doesn’t know much about the proposed partnership between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, but he does – he’s not counting on it.
The FedExCup points leader and No. 2 seed addressed the media Tuesday in Cromwell, Connecticut, home of this week’s Travelers Championship event, the final defining event on the PGA Tour this season.
It’s also worth noting that the Tour’s player advisory board is set to meet on Tuesday night, not that Ram expects many answers out about the alliance.
“I didn’t talk much about (Al-Ittihad) last week, and I think I might know more in a few hours once we finish meeting the player tonight,” Ram said. “I don’t think we’ll get much of an answer, but I’ll at least get an idea of where the Chief Membership is. That’s all I can say. We don’t know anything. I don’t know if those in charge know much more than we do.”
He added, “There are a lot of unanswered questions yet, and I don’t want to waste time thinking about it because there are so many unknowns.”
Ram, 28, plays for the Travelers for the first time since 2020 and only plays due to the particular situation. Players are allowed to skip one specific tournament, so Ram plays the week after the US Open – something he doesn’t usually do.
“Well, there are two events I wouldn’t have played this season if it weren’t for the world we’ve had this year, which is why I haven’t played them in the past,” Ram said. “The big weeks can be taxing and I’ve always tried to schedule around not playing in those weeks.”
The event provided charter flights for the players, given the cross-country flight from Los Angeles, site of last week’s US Open.
Ram said, “I can tell you with complete confidence that I probably wouldn’t have been here even though I love the tournament a lot. With that being said, they did a great job as I said putting the players at ease.” “Having a charter flight always makes it a lot easier.”
“It’s just sometimes if it doesn’t fit into the schedule, it doesn’t fit into the schedule,” he continued. “In that case, I’m really glad this year turned out the way it did so I can come back.”
