The Los Angeles Lakers may approach the offseason with Vision 2021.
Sportswriter Darren Wolfson of KSTP-TV I reported this week The Lakers are one team interested in Orlando Magic guard Galen Suggs. And Wolfson noted that the Saggs could be a trade candidate for the Magic if the organization ends up drafting a guard sixth overall on Thursday (which Orlando did by selecting Arkansas Combo guard Anthony Black).
Suggs is best known for his career with the Gonzaga Bulldogs, leading the team to the NCAA title game in 2021. The 22-year-old was the hero in the Final Four against UCLA when he was Made one of the greatest shots in tournament history To raise Gonzaga beat the bell. Suggs was also a second team All-American and first team All-WCC in his college year.
But Suggs didn’t get a chance to prove himself with the Magic, who drafted him No. 5 overall in 2021. He’s been stuck behind Markel Fultz and Cole Anthony on the depth chart and will face more competition with Black (plus fellow rookie guard Jett Howard) in town.
The Lakers need more ballplayers and three-point shooters with D’Angelo Russell, Dennis Schroder, Lonnie Walker IV, and Austin Reaves all close to free agency. A highly rated passer who can hit a triple (though not consistently at the pro level), Suggs can tick both of those boxes. What’s also interesting is that the Lakers have also been looking up lately One of Suggs’ former Gonzaga teammates.
