NBA draft rumours: Hornets locked on Brandon Miller at second overall?
The NBA Draft lottery confirmed that the San Antonio Spurs would finish first overall, and allowed the team to recruit another Gilles big man Victor Wimpanyama. With that said, the NBA draft officially starts with the #2 pick, which is held by the Charlotte Hornets. Along with Wembanyama, NBA G League Ignite Scoot Henderson has been getting a lot of hype. Sure, it would be the Hornets’ pick, right?
In his latest mock draft, Kevin O’Connor from The Ringer The Hornets selected Alabama forward Brandon Miller as second. Here is what O’Connor writes:
“All indications are that the Hornets are leaning toward Miller with this selection as LaMelo Ball partner. I would go in that direction also over Scott Henderson because Miller brings playmaking skill in his own right, in addition to his scoring prowess,” writes O’Connor.
Miller was a star during his only season at Alabama, as the team was one of the best in the country. In 37 games, Miller averaged 18.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists, while posting a 43.0 field goal percentage and a 38.4 three-point percentage.
But during the past season, he has been linked to being involved in the death of collector Jonai Harris. Miller’s associate, Darius Miles, has been charged with first degree murder for shooting Harris. Miller allegedly turned in the handgun involved in the killing to Miles, according to the law enforcement affidavit. The gun belonged to Miles. Miller has not been charged, and the Deputy Tuscaloosa District Attorney revealed to AL.com that “there is nothing we can charge him with” according to the law.
Even with this off-court incident, the belief is that the Hornets will pick him in the first round.
