The Pebble Beach Pro-Am is always a golf enthusiast’s delight. Not only do they get a chance to see the beauty of the famous coastal links each February, but they also get to watch the celebrities team up with golfers in professional competition. There is no greater week in the calendar for the crossover between golf and pop culture.
Country music superstar Jake Owen is a mainstay in the pro celebrity field. As an avid golfer, the musician always makes time in his busy schedule to venture out to the Monterey Peninsula every year to beat it alongside the pros.
What makes the event even more attractive is the fact that Owen’s Tour pro partner is one of the most popular in-game partners in Jordan Spieth. On this week’s episode of GOLF’s Subpar, Owen gives an insight into what it’s like teaming up with a three-time major winner each year at Pebble Beach.
“He’s an amazing guy, unbelievable,” said Owen. “He’s an amazing talent.”
Owen and Spieth have played together at the annual Pebble Beach Pro-Am since Spieth first played at the event in 2013, and the two have completely developed a relationship in that time.
“To watch him grow up — to watch him go from the new guy, to winning the Masters and winning the US Open and winning Grand Slams and being a dad, and now that fatherhood, winning again — watching that journey, I really enjoy watching that,” Owen said. “I see it as fun to play with.”
In the time they’ve played side by side, Spieth has won the event once – in 2017 – and finished inside the top ten five other times.
