NBA fans witnessed one of the best finishes in an NBA playoff game Saturday night when the Boston Celtics stunned the Miami Heat in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
The magnitude of the situation goes beyond just a game-winning tip from Celtics guard Derek White as time expired. It also tied a series previously up 3-0 for the Miami Heat at 3-3 with Game 7 to be played again to Boston.
As impressive as White’s running back was before the clock hit zero, he also put the Celtics and their 28-year-old guard in the rarest company imaginable. As the athlete explained, it was only the second time in NBA history that a player hit a game-winning shot while facing elimination and being late at the time of the final shot.
The other time this happened? Michael Jordan infamously shot Craig Ihlo and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1989 NBA Playoffs.
