EXCLUSIVE: Virna Jandiroba vs. Tatiana Suarez in the UFC plans for the Aug. 5 card in Nashville. Number six in the UFC 52kg rankings, the Brazilian has a victory over compatriot Marina Rodriguez, while Suarez, number 10, has a victory over Montaña de la Rosa.
Suarez (9-0) recently returned to the octagon after a four-year absence and picked up a win over Montana de la Rosa at flyweight. The former TUF winner has competed most of her career at 115 pounds, but moved up to 125 pounds for her comeback fight. However, she has previously stated that she expects to return to strawweight, and that seems to really be the case in this bout.
Jandiruba (19-3) is coming off straight wins over Marina Rodriguez and Angela Hill to bounce back after losing to Amanda Ribas. She’s been using her wrestling to success lately, and her win over Rodriguez really moved her rankings up at 115 pounds. However, the UFC is going to give her a tough style match with Rodriguez, who has some of the best grappling in the women’s divisions.
Look for Suarez to be a big favorite for this fight given the hype behind her and the matching style of play, not to mention that she has the size advantage now that she’s back in a weight class.
Who do you think wins this strawweight match between Tatiana Suarez and Verna Jandiruba?
