Nothing can stop Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) from celebrating his fifth NCAA men’s basketball title. Not even a broken femur.
Connecticut knows how to celebrate championships because the Huskies now have 16 national titles between the men’s and women’s basketball teams since 1995. The latest came after a 76-59 win over the San Diego Aztecs in the men’s championship game earlier this month.
Blumenthal could not miss this last celebration, and was one of thousands attending the Hartford parade on Saturday.
Unfortunately, the senator was injured when another fan fell on him. What’s even crazier is that Blumenthal got up and decided to end the show after the accident.
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) noted that Blumenthal was very dedicated to celebrating the Huskies.
“What can I say, I love the show! Thanks Chris and everyone for the well wishes,” Blumenthal tweeted on April 8. “I actually broke my femur after a co-star tripped and fell on me during the show today. Routine surgery tomorrow just to make sure that Everything is healing properly. I expect a full recovery!”
Blumenthal suffered a minor fracture of his upper femur and underwent surgery on April 9 at Stamford Hospital. However, this injury did not mean that Blumenthal would be sitting at home.
The Quinnipiac Bobcats won the NFL’s Division I Men’s Hockey League National Championship with a 3-2 victory over Minnesota in overtime Sunday. Blumenthal is already looking forward to this party.
“I’ve already started physical therapy, but I won’t be marching in any parades for two weeks – Quinnipiac though, you’d better believe I’ll still be the loudest at your celebration!” Blumenthal Books.
