General Manager Anthony MacLeish announced today that Forward Ron Holland, a five-star high school prospect whom ESPN ranked as the No. 2 player in the class of 2023, has signed with the NBA G League Ignite.
“First of all, I want to thank God for giving me the capabilities to play the game I love,” Holland said. “I want to thank everyone who believed in me throughout the whole process, it wasn’t easy. I’m so excited to be joining G League Ignite. I feel like Ignite has the tools to prepare me for the life I want on and off the field. Let’s get to work!”
Holland, a Duncanville, Texas native, was selected as the 2023 McDonald’s High School All-American and earned a spot on the 2023 Nike Hoop Summit USA Team. Named the 2022 Texas Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year -23 after averaging 20.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 steals while leading Duncanville High School to a 29-1 record this past season. As a sophomore in 2020-21, Holland helped Duncanville finish 28-1 and win the state championship.
Holland has won two gold medals with USA Basketball, at the FIBA U-16 Americas Championship in 2021 and the FIBA U-17 Basketball World Cup in 2022. In the U-16 competition, he averaged 19.0 points and 10.2 rebounds and was named to the All-Team Tournament Honour. In the U-17 event, he scored 11.1 points and 6.6 rebounds.
Holland joins fellow 2023 McDonald’s All-American and Gatorade Illinois star Matas Bozelis, NBA Academy alumni Thierry Darlan and Babacar Sane, sophomore Ignite player London Johnson and Texas high school Dink Pat on Ignite’s list as the latest group of the best National players and international prospects preparing for the NBA Draft submitted by State Farm.
Ignite has produced three top 10 NBA Draft picks in the past two years — more than any program in that period — in Jalen Green (2021, No. 2, Houston Rockets), Jonathan Cuminga (2021, No. 7, Golden State Warriors) and Dyson Daniels ( 2022, No. 8, New Orleans Pelicans). Ignite has earned a total of six NBA Draft draft picks in the past two years, which matches the program’s highest total in that span.
