Flipping in the NBA has become an epidemic, and the league has decided something needs to change.
According to a report From Shams Al-Shaarani the athleteThe NBA Competition Commission is discussing the possibility of an in-game penalty for twists that could lead to a technical foul free throw. Discussions are under way that could lead to a test run of the rule during the NBA Summer League in July.
As time went on, more and more players across the league tried to sell fouls to the referee, as defensemen across the NBA tried to make offensive fouls. The embellishment of contact, sometimes to the point of flopping where there was no contact at all, frequently resulted in bad calls on blast plays by officials. There has historically been no penalty for a flop, and only recently have foul calls become reviewable plays for teams across the league.
Now it looks like the league is willing to take the penalty for flopping a step further, and time will tell whether or not the technical foul rule will be permanent.
