The Las Vegas Police Department announced Friday that it will not file charges after a brief investigation into the exchange between pop star Britney Spears, spurs Rookie Victor Wimpanyama and a member of his security team.
The Grammy award-winning artist has filed a police report, citing battery charges after she says she was slapped by a security guard when trying to approach Wimpanyama to take a photo at Catch Restaurant inside the ARIA Hotel on Wednesday night,per TMZ. inThe police report confirmed it Los Angeles TimesSpurs – a Wimpanyama fan – tried to get the Frenchman’s attention by tapping him on the right shoulder.
But when she tried to do so, Damian Smith, the Spurs’ team safety director, immediately hit her with a backhand, knocking out Spurs’ glasses, according to TMZ. In the police report, Kid Hudson – Spears’ manager – confirmed that the pop star was shot in the face,per ESPN.
On Friday, the LVMPD said its investigation was complete and that “no charges will be filed against the person involved.” Authorities said surveillance video revealed Spears accidentally hit herself in the face after pushing her hand away from Wimpanyama.

On Thursday, the 7’3 Tottenham center stated “something just happened a little bit” while he was with security at the restaurant. However, Wimpanyama “didn’t see what happened” because he was “walking straight” when someone “grabbed” him from behind.
It wasn’t until hours after Wimpanyama found out that he was Spears. In a post on her Instagram story, Spears stated that the altercation was “very embarrassing” and that she was hopeful about receiving an apology from the team or the security guard.
However, according to the police report, the Wimpanyama security member apologized to Spears while she was having dinner inside the restaurant.
Wimpanyama is set to play his first game in the NBA Summer League against the Hornets on Friday night in Las Vegas.
