It will not be easy for the St. Louis Blues to transfer the salary
Jim Thomas from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: The St. Louis Blues may be looking to earn more salary cap space this season by moving one or two of their higher-priced defensemen. If they don’t, they don’t have much salary room to work with. It will not be easy to transfer the salary.
They could return next season with contracts from Justin Faulk, Colton Parayko, Tore Krogh and Nick Leddy.
NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames, and Buffalo Sabers
Potential touchdown points if the Ottawa Senators look to trade Alex DeBrincat
Lyle Richardson from Bleacher Report: Alex DeBrincat is a pending RFA who owes a qualifying offer of $9 million and, according to reporter Bruce Garrioch, appears under no obligation to extend the contract at this point.
A look at DeBrincat’s top five potential touchdowns if the Senators decide to trade him.
Calgary Flames – You may need to create cover space, and you may help convince Elias Lindholm to sign an extension. He has one year left and he hasn’t committed to exit interviews. The Flames may not want to include Matthew Coronato, Jakob Pelletier, or Dustin Wolf.
Carolina Hurricanes – They could use some other offense and currently have $24.5 million in projected cap space. Their first-round selection will be at the end of the round. The Senators may have an interest in forward Jack Drury or right-hander Scott Morrow.
Detroit Red Wings – Could use offense but might prefer to find a forward who’s how physical and isn’t as close to being a UFA as DeBrincat. Get cover space, an extra first-round pick, and three seconds. Chances are, Jonathan Berggren or Carter Mazur might be interested in Sens.
New York Islanders – Will score more points alongside Matthew Barzal. Only $6.9 million in cap space with 18 players signed. They do not have a first-round selection this year. Will waiting for RFA Oliver Wallstrom interest Sens?
NHL RUMORS: Tyler Bertuzzi’s breakout performance will result in a high market value
Pittsburgh Penguins Goalkeeping may be their biggest need, but they finished 16th in terms of goals per game last season. They need some cap space and could look to get out Mikael Granlund, Jeff Petry or Bryan Rust. The pool of possibilities for penguins is a bit thin.
