Nick Gismondi: “One of the busiest teams this season has been the Carolina Hurricanes. So what could we see with the next moves?”
Pagnotta: “Well, I mean, look, all the stuff with Vladimir Tarasenko and all the belief that he was going to end up there. I can tell you the Hurricanes definitely thought that was going to happen. They had a press release ready to trade and he kind of fell through and changed agents. Carolina will still be in mix and try to make it happen.
But other than what’s going on with Tarasenko, they’re still very active on the commercial front. Erik Carlson is a man they are still very much involved with and would love to make that happen. But, they have to get some money out and not just San Jose keep the salary.
One player they’ve been in discussions with since just before the draft was Brett Besik. He has one year left on his contract. He has a 15-team trade roster as part of his deal.
This is a team that will add Tony DiAngelo on July 8th. Once that trade becomes official, he’ll be officially part of the mix in the Carolinas
And then, it gets stacked in the backend. They did the big signing of Dmitry Orlov. They brought in Michael Bunting as you can see there up front, but they want to continue to strengthen their defence.
They could get Brett Pesci out, and there are a lot of discussions with the Nashville Predators about that possibility. And that might not necessarily be a three-way deal but the discussions that are going on right now, if they can get Pesce to Nashville and that deal potentially includes a first-round pick, the Carolinas can then use those assets along with their package to try and make something What’s up with Erik Carlson in San Jose.
He is ready to go there. He is willing to sign a no-movement clause to go to Raleigh. Pittsburgh is also in the mix. But it kind of sits and waits. And if the Hurricanes can pull this off, it will take as you mentioned, some retention from the San Jose Sharks, anywhere from $3 to $4 million. But these conversations are very much ongoing and are still ongoing. It’s definitely something worth pursuing.”
The Carolina Hurricane has been very active in the off-season, and more moves may be on the way.
