UFC phenomenon, Khamzat Chimaev continues to fan the flames with a potential bout with Kamaru Usman later this year.
For someone who has built his fearsome reputation for seemingly fighting anyone, it’s been a while since Chimaev has competed — ten months to be exact. While Chimaev had a significant amount of time between his fights with Gerald Meerschaert and Li Jingliang, this was due to a serious Covid-19 illness, for which he almost retired. So, oddly enough, with apparently no documented injury, visa, or personal issues, Chimaev hasn’t fought since his first round demolition of Kevin Holland.
However, that didn’t stop the Chechen-born fighter from being called out and teased by his contemporaries, calling out and relating to many other fighters from 1,790 to 185 pounds. Recently though, there were rumors of a fight with former welterweight champ, Osman, and the pair have since exchanged words via social media and interviews.
Khamzat Chimaev encourages Kamaru Usman to reach middleweight
In most of the back and forth between the couple, Othman was asked about a possible bout with Chimaev and explained that he was open to the fight, but Borz would have to be disciplined and reach the welterweight limit.
“Hey, this is the guy you guys say is the next guy in the department.” Well, give me that guy. I said that to Dana,” Osman started. At the end of the day, I was and still am the boogeyman in this split. I asked (Khamsat). If you want to fight, you want to be a champion, drop weight. And come and fight.” (H/T BloodyElbow)
Nobody ever held his tongue, Chimaev replied to Osman, telling him to come meet him at middleweight. Weight gain is something Osman talked about earlier.
“Kamaru Osman, why are you talking about me?” Chimaev asked. “You said you wanted to fight at 84kg [Middleweight]Weight is not a problem for you. You’re a boogeyman, but I’m the wolf. come up.”
