It would be difficult to transfer and hold Blake Wheeler. The Buffalo Sabers and New Jersey Devils could have looked at Conor Helbwick.
The Maple Leafs’ top priority will be the extension of Auston Matthews’ contract. He can sign an extension on July 1, the day the no-movement clause begins. If he doesn’t sign for a long time, they won’t lose him for nothing after next season. They can make a deal of four to five years. William Nylander is the easiest for the Maple Leafs to trade.
The Kings may be close to signing fullback Vladislav Gavrikov. Sean Walker and Sean Dorsey could be out. The Kings will have to make some goaltending decisions.
- Denise Bernstein: Do not believe that the report of the Kings’ closeness to re-signing Gavrikov is accurate. The last time the situation was checked, there were no contractual talks between the two sides. The Kings need to clear up some salary cap space.
Ducks goaltender John Gibson might prefer to end up in Pittsburgh, Vegas, or Los Angeles. Forwards Adam Henrique and Jacob Silverberg could be the rental moves at the deadline due to their contracts.
The Arizona Coyotes can look forward to moving forward Nick Schmaltz, who has three years left at $5.85 million, but with a salary of $7.5 million, $8.45 million, $8.5 million.
