Citing back pain, LPGA star Nelly Korda has announced that she will miss next week’s inaugural Mizuho Americas Open in Jersey City, New Jersey.
“Don’t share any fun or easy news but I have made the decision to withdraw from next week’s tournament based on the advice of my medical team to treat the pain in my back,” Korda wrote on social media on Monday evening. “We are working on a treatment plan to ensure I am back at 100% soon for the remainder of an exciting season. Thank you all for the support.”
Korda, 24, is an eight-time winner on the LPGA Tour and former world number one. She and South Korea’s Jin Young Ko have swapped the top rankings several times this season, with Ko currently leading Korda with an average rating of 0.01. points.
On her final start, Korda missed out on the Cognizant Founders’ Cup. She finished third in the first major championship of the season, the Chevron Championship. Her next scheduled start will be at the Meijer LPGA Classic on June 15-18, one week before her next major tournament, the KPMG Women’s Championship.
Korda suffered a blood clot in her arm early in the 2022 season and missed four months of action while she recovered.
