The San Antonio Spurs selected Victor Wimpanyama with the first pick of the 2023 NBA draft.
Brooklyn, New York, was the center of attention in the basketball world on Thursday night.
After all the waiting, hype, and drama, the 2023 NBA draft has begun. As expected, the San Antonio Spurs selected 19-year-old Victor Wimpanyama with the first pick in the draft.
The 7-foot-4 spent last season playing for the Metropolitans 92 in France’s native LNB Pro A league.
There have been many players with tall, slender frames who have been in and out of the NBA. However, not all of this construction is as dominant as Wembanyama. In his last season in France, he averaged 21.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and three blocks, leading the league in These three stats. He did so while shooting 47 percent from the field.
Mbanyama has been hailed by many as the most anticipated draft pick since LeBron James in 2003. Expectations are through the roof, and there’s no better place for him to start than in San Antonio under the direction of Gregg Popovich.

Tottenham have previously managed to recruit big men with first picks with David Robinson in 1987 and Tim Duncan in 1997. They also have a good history of drafting foreign talent such as Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. The organization hopes to repeat these feats with Wimpanyama. With the right pieces around it, they could replicate that success.
