Some San Antonio Spurs fans were ready to throw in the towel after watching Victor Wimpanyama struggle so hard with his shot in his NBA Summer League debut.
He’s been entangled in some controversy with Britney Spears and his security guard, and it seemed like all the attention was on him for all the wrong reasons.
Then, he responded by bouncing back with a big performance to change the narrative once again, which is why The Athletic’s Shams Charania believes he’s had the chance to be one of the most influential players of all time.
The first match was difficult for Victor Wimpanyama.
I saw how dynamic he can be in the second game and he’s built to be really cool in this league.”~ @tweet #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/q5E6VyTkJA

Charania praised the fact that he had been playing non-stop over the past year and that he was able to stop all the pressure being put on him and just focus on what was important.
Wimpanyama admitted he did not know what he was doing in his first Summer League game, stating that he had barely practiced and was out of rhythm.
He even looked gassed in the second half of the match, with some raising questions about his conditioning.
But now that he has also provided a glimpse of an elite player who can be given enough time and opportunities, Tottenham must do the right thing by playing it safe and locking him in until the start of the season.
He needs to rest, recover and be ready when it really is necessary, especially if he wants to avoid injuries, which are his biggest fear as he enters his rising campaign.
