We already did Elite star collapses in overtime Amin Thompson, but now it’s time to dissect the game of his identical twin brother, Osar Thompson. The 6-foot-7, 208-pound winger naturally has some similarities to his brother, but Ossar is said to have an inch advantage in wingspan. While Ausar is a very good athlete, his brother has him beat him a lot in this respect – Amen has a lot more rushing than he does, both in terms of speed and jumping ability, but Ausar makes up for most of that with a more subtle intelligence. skill set.
No one will confuse the Ausar with a deadlift shooter, but his jump jacket is really coming in. The teams used to be under the screens in Osare, just like they do in Amen. However, this is no longer an option with the Ausar. In the Extra Elite Qualifiers, Osar hit 38.5% of his triples, doing so at 7.8 attempts per match. Now a comfortable catching and shooting player, Ausar has also demonstrated his ability to strike the ball from dribbling. It has a nice high-resolution version, and the mechanics don’t care at all. Ausar also has a great touch on his floats, which is further evidence that he’ll be a serviceable shooter in the NBA. Touch is a great indicator for shooting pieces.
With Ausar looking for the part of a decent professional shooter, the 20-year-old is one of the most interesting wingers in this draft. Ausar just has the potential to be a special player off the ball, as his athleticism and ball-handling ability open him up to all kinds of possibilities. Not only is Ossar the guy who should be able to make NBA basketball players, but he should have no problem attacking the basket. It runs very smooth around the rim, and has the real feel of shifting gears as a power slant. The Ausar can speed up when it’s time to blow by you, or it can slow down when trying to lull you to sleep. This ability is formidable when you take into account his jumping ability.
Ausar is also a powerful playmaker on the wing. He’s not as good a passer as Amen, who constantly pockets passes and has a sixth sense when it comes to spotting exposed shooters. But Ausar has good court vision and real creativity in his game, and his size allows him to see through defenses and make plays when you least expect it. This makes it easy to envision Ausar’s role as a secondary or tertiary creator in the right offense. When you combine that with what he can do as a goalscorer, you’re looking at a player who doesn’t have many real flaws.
If there’s anything to worry about in the offensive Ausar game, it’s that he can seem lost at times when trying to beat his man in isolation situations. For that reason, he seems like more of an offensive second or third option than Alpha, but given his tools, it’s not outrageous to think he could evolve into more. Ausar has already made giant strides in his game under the largely unproven Overtime Elite system at this point. There’s no telling what he’ll do once he starts forming reps with the NBA coaching staff.
Defensively, Ausar has the potential to be great off the jump. It’s hard being an elite rookie defender in the NBA, but Osar is really the kind of guy who can go out and lock up the best player on the opposing team. Of course, that may change once he jumps from OTE to the NBA, but there’s reason to believe Ausar will be a great player in that end. Not only does he have all the physical tools you need to be a great defender, but he also has great instincts.
Osar plans to be an excellent defender on the ball, with the size and foot speed required to guard multiple positions. He has also shown his ability to be a strong shot-blocker on the weak side, which gives him the potential to be a good defender for the team. While the Ausar needs to add some weight to its chassis, it has the functional strength required to increase the size and power guard forward in a pinch.
Not many people seem to want to say that Osar is a better prospect than Amen, but I firmly believe that he is. He just has some polish that his brother lacks at the moment, and he’s still an impressive enough athlete to have plenty of boatloads of untapped potential. Of course, it’s not hard to imagine Amen going ahead of his brother, and it’s hard to blame a team for falling in love with his otherworldly sport. Feeling a little underappreciated at this point, Ausar can prove to be the best winger in the 2023 NBA Draft class.
