After four rounds of 15 different games between 16 of the top 279 goals scored from the 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs regular season, we finally got a winner after voting in the final game that ended yesterday afternoon on our Twitter account (@employee)
Before we got to the finals, we faced a match between two of the best right wing players in the league – Mitch Marner and William Nylander.
We would either have watched Marner repeat as champion and win another Class of the Season goal after winning it last year with his goal against the Vegas Golden Knights on November 2, 2021, or we would have seen William Nylander be crowned the winner for the first time.
First match, finals:
Winner: Mitch Marner vs. EDM, March 11, 2023 (52% of the vote)
Loser: William Nylander v. Maine, February 24, 2023 (48% of the vote)
The matchup in the finals was the closest we’ve come of all four rounds for the entire class, and rightfully so. Those goals by Mitch Marner and William Nylander were two of the highlights last season, and I expected nothing less from a close game with 130+ votes.
Marner and Nylander scored five goals each from last season, so it was almost certain that these two would find each other in the finals in some way, whether it was with those two goals or two more goals he scored.
Here is a picture of the updated bracket after the finals just concluded yesterday afternoon.
I just want to say thank you to everyone who took the time to go to our Twitter account (@employee) during the last two weeks to leave a vote on each match from the first round until the finals. He ultimately helped set the goal of the season for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
