The manager of a PFL fighter who had recently been suspended for promotion due to a lackluster spell, ruled out the decision.
2022 Lightweight Champion Rausch Manview lost to his close friend Natan Schulte, who is also the godfather to his daughter, at the 2023 PFL 6, held on Friday in Atlanta.
The match was lackluster in nature with minimal participation. After the fight, the NFL removed Nathan Schulte from the court who had just clinched him with the win and suspended him from action. Manfio has also been suspended from competing under the promotion’s banner through the end of 2023. The promotion said Saturday that the actions were taken because the fighters “did not meet the standards that all PFL fighters agree to maintain in competition.”
Brian Butler, of SuckerPunch Entertainment, runs Manfio. On Saturday, Butler disavowed the promotion decision in a statement to MMA Junkie. It also called into question the subjectivity of the situation because, despite it being a league format, the promotion decides to juggle the regular season.
“Making such a subjective decision from a promotion betting on its claim to defend fighters is just bad looks, in my opinion,” said Butler. The judges make bad calls all the time with less repercussions. Raush and Natan are best friends and have been each other’s exclusive training partners for years.
“Situations like poorly styled matches and lackluster fights happen in this sport all the time, but the unique thing about the PFL and the ‘tournament/points format’ is that it will sort itself out in the end. Our client was paid half their pay and zero points to proceed in the tournament. .. This is abhorrent and unnecessary.”
Several rules listed in the official “2023 Rules and Regulations” document posted on the promotion’s website address semifinals, points assignment, and knockout qualification.
Article 1.1.c. He notes that the semi-finals are merit-based, “The Fighters will earn points during the regular season based on their performance and will be seeded in the division standings accordingly. At the end of the regular season, the Big Four in each division will make the playoffs.”
However, Section 3.1.b. It lays the groundwork for the playoff participants to be selected in a more traditional matchmaker-type format, “The semi-final match-ups will be decided at the discretion of the League. The League reserves the right to change matches at any time.”
In addition, Section 2.3 states that points, which determine who does and who does not participate in the PFL Playoffs, can be changed by promotion at any time.
according to the offer Lightweight Official RankingSince Schulte was stripped of his three points against Manview, he has slipped below the qualifying line. Schulte and his representatives have yet to comment.
The 2023 PFL Lightweight Playoffs will take place August 23 in the theater at Madison Square Garden. Schulte’s replacement Shane Burgos will face Clay Collard and 2022 champion Olivier Aubin Mercier will face Bruno Miranda.
