Kyrie Irving has been linked with a move to Los Angeles for several months and his appearance on the court in Game 6 will only fuel Lakers rumors.
Maybe Kyrie Irving was in Los Angeles and wanted to get in on the basketball game. The Clippers weren’t playing, so of course he went to see the Lakers. Maybe he just wanted to show some support for his old Cavaliers teammate LeBron James.
Or maybe Irving wasn’t secretly indicating his interest in joining James in Hollywood this time around.
On Friday night, for whatever reason, Irving was seen in courtside seats versus a Lakers bench at the crypto.com Arena for Game 6 between Los Angeles and Memphis.
Kyrie Irving’s appearance on the court will fuel Lakers rumors
Irving recently played in Dallas after the Nets honored his trade request. However, his time with the Mavericks didn’t exactly go as planned.
While he averaged 27 points, five rebounds and six assists in 20 games with Dallas, Irving’s partnership with Luka Doncic yielded no results and the team failed to make the playoffs. That’s a decent review indeed. Not only did they miss the postseason, the Mavericks imploded after the trade, leaving everyone unhappy with the standings.
Irving will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, so if he wants to join the Lakers, that’s definitely a possibility.
However, the question of whether Los Angeles would want Irving is complex. They reportedly pursued a trade with the Nets when he became available, but reports have also indicated that the Lakers have no intention of pursuing him this summer.
So Irving appearing in Game 6 isn’t a guarantee for a future team, but it isn’t anything. Smoke around irving and los angeles over there. Summer will reveal if there is a fire burning under this smoke.
