The 2022-23 Washington Capitals season ended less than a week ago, but we’re already looking forward and gearing up for the 2023-24 season (our 10th year here at the NoVa Caps!). Here are some of the key (known) dates for the upcoming upcoming season
2023 NHL Entry Draft
- lottery project Monday, May 8, at NHL Network’s Secaucus Studio, NJ, NJ. The event will be broadcast live starting at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN, Sportsnet, and TVA Sports. The Capitals are currently ranked eighth, with a 6% chance of winning the first overall pick. [MORE HERE]
- NHL Entry Draft – The 2023 NHL Entry Draft will be the 61st NHL Entry Draft, which will be held June 28-29, 2023, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
Scouts gather
- The 2023 NHL Scouting Combine will run from Sunday, June 4th to Saturday, June 10th in Buffalo, New York.
NHL Awards
- 2023 NHL The awards will take place on Monday, June 26th Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
Restricted Free Agents (RFA)
- Qualifying Offers: As per the rule, qualified offers must be submitted to restricted free agents (Alex AlexeevAnd Martin FerraryAnd Clark CodesAnd Riley Souter And Henrik Borgstrom) later on the Monday after the Entry Draft or June 25. In this case, the Monday after the draft, which is July 3.
- A qualified offer cannot actually be accepted before July 1st. If the qualifying offer is not accepted, it will expire by July 15 unless extended in writing by the team. [MORE HERE]

For the first time since 2019, the NHL’s annual free agent market will open on July 1 at noon EST.
