Despite being the #2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, James Wiseman has had a relatively disappointing streak so far in his professional career.
But he’s looked fairly well so far in the NBA Summer League, and he’s looking to prove that he’ll succeed after all in the big leagues.
On Sunday, he shot from long range in the Detroit Pistons’ 113-101 loss to the Houston Rockets, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds in 26 minutes.

Wiseman, a 7-foot-1, 240-pound center, spent his first two seasons with the Golden State Warriors, and it was thought that along with Jonathan Cuminga, Moses Moody, and Jordan Paul, they would extend the team’s dynasty.
He showed some promise as a starter, but missed the 2021-22 season when the Warriors won their fourth NBA championship in the Stephen Curry era.
He was sent down to the G League at one point this past season, and Golden State ended up trading him to the Pistons in February.
Weisman averaged 12.7 points and 8.1 rebounds in 25.2 minutes a game with the Pistons, but he’s still a lot of work in progress.
The Warriors seem to have given up a lot of their youthful moves, as they also dropped Pool to welcome Chris Paul, the 38-year-old future Hall of Famer, just days ago.
They still have hope for Kuminga and Moody, but there are also concerns, especially for Kuminga, who some feel lacks the dedication to fulfill his potential.
At least now, Wiseman will get a chance to play important minutes instead of being buried on the bench while a team is in winning mode now.
