Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Hurst has cleared speculation about Giannis Antetokounmpo’s preparation for this year’s FIBA Basketball World Cup in the Philippines.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that Antetokounmpo is unsure of his suitability for Greece after he underwent an operation to clean the soft cartilage in his left knee two weeks ago. This raised doubts about the Pax star’s international service to his home country.
But Horst made it clear that there is no final decision being made yet on whether or not Giannis will actually miss out on a major championship appearance.
“When it comes to the health of our players, we always work collaboratively with the player, their representative and our performance staff to make the best possible decision,” Horst Tell the athlete. “In the case of playing for the national team, we are working with our partners in those federations as well. No decision has been taken as to whether Giannis will be with the Greek national team this summer.”
The Greeks will battle the United States, New Zealand and Jordan in Group C at the World Cup.
If Antetokounmpo is declared ineligible to play for Greece, the basketball-obsessed Filipinos will miss another golden opportunity to watch an NBA star perform on their home turf.
