Heading into Round 4 on Saturday, four players expected to take out Round 2 are still available: Georgia linebacker Kelly Ringo (38th), edge climber Northwestern’s Adetomewa Adepower (43rd). Texas A&M (57) and tackle Dawand Jones from Ohio Street (58).
14 players expected to go into the third round are still on the board – including tackle Blake Freeland BYU (80th), edge climber Isaiah McGuire of Missouri (90th) and wide receiver AT Perry of Wake Forest (92nd).
This might make you wonder if a large number of players were picked up much earlier than the ratings expected – and that’s exactly what happened. Through the first three rounds of the draft in 2022, the pick averaged 4.6 points ahead of projections. Over the first three rounds in Kansas City, that number was 13.5!
Five of the 102 players drafted so far have been booked by more than 100 locations prior to their proposed ranking. Nine rounds were taken at least twice early and 18 were taken at least one round early.
So those who mentioned that the draft would be unexpected – including Sports Illustrated Albert Brier W NBC Sports Peter King – They were absolutely right.
And while it’s true that General Manager Brett Veitch made two of his three draft picks, so many other teams have far worst. On average, the three Kansas City 10 draft picks were made earlier than our rankings predicted. So far, 13 teams have higher averages – and eight of them are more than double Kansas City’s averages!
After the trades made before Rashee Rice and Wanya Morris were selected, Kansas City moves on to Day Three with five picks remaining.
- Round 1, pick 32 (31st overall): De Felix Anodic-Uzuma
- Round 2, pick 24* (55th overall): WR Rashee Rice
- Third round, pick 29** (92nd overall): OL Wanya Morris
- Round 4, pick 32 (Ranked 134 overall)
- Round 5, pick 32 (Rank 166 overall)
- Round 6, pick 1 (Rank 178 overall)
- Round 6, Pick 17* (Ranked 194th overall)
- Round 7, pick 33 (Rank 250 overall)
