The 1992 Olympic Dream Team is revered for reinvesting the NBA’s biggest stars into the Games and returning the USA men’s basketball team to gold-medal status after settling for bronze four years earlier. So it’s no surprise that when Hall of Famer Karl Malone decided to auction off memorabilia from his time on the team, the items fetched a hefty price tag.
Malone sold several Dream Team items at auction earlier this past week, and the shipments totaled more than $5 million. The big ticket item was a T-shirt with Michael Jordan’s signature that read “To Carl, Good Luck,” which grossed just over $3 million.

Malone also sold an autographed Larry Bird shirt and pair of shoes, along with a Magic Johnson T-shirt.
Malone joined Jordan, Bird, Johnson, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, and many more future Hall of Famers on the gold medal cruise in Barcelona. Malone’s sale continues a trend of Jordan memorabilia doing well at auction: A pair of Air Jordans worn during Game Two of the 1998 NBA Finals sold for more than $2.2 million in April. Jordan scored 37 points in that game on his way to his sixth and final NBA Championship.
