Injuries are mounting for the Phoenix Suns ahead of Game 6.
While Chris Paul has been out since the second half of Game 2, another Suns player is set to miss Game 6 with news breaking Thursday afternoon that Deandre Ayton will miss the win-or-miss home game against the Denver Nuggets with a bruised rib.
Ayton suffered the injury midway through Game 5, a loss for the Suns to go down 3-2 in the series. Big man Nikola Jokic struggled throughout the series as the team began relying on big man Jock Landal to bench more and more as the series progressed.
As tough as the former No. 1 pick is, he’s one of the few guys on the Suns roster who can see the ground, so he’ll feel his impact simply by being a big body playing Jokic down there.
Ayton averaged 10 points and eight rebounds while shooting 57% from the field in over 29 minutes per game. However, he has been -59 on the floor through five games.
Despite his struggles, the alternatives just aren’t there for Phoenix, which is evident in the point spread that kept him one point away from news of Ayton’s exit. Phoenix is currently the home favorite with two points in a must-win game at home.
