SAO PAULO, BRAZIL – UFC heavyweight Jailton Almeida is on alert, looking to continue in UFC Sao Paulo in the main event against Curtis Blades.
MMA Junkie was the first to break the news. This will be the promotion’s return to São Paulo since November 2019.
The heavyweight main event pits #4 Blaydes against #9 Almeida in what could be a good opportunity for one of them to cement their place in the title picture.
Blades (17-4) is coming off a loss to Sergei Pavlovich in April. Prior to that, he was riding a 3 fight win streak that many thought he could be next for the Jon Jones Champion title.
Almeida (19-2) ran through Jairzinho Rosenstruck in May, finishing the striker via submission in the first round. He takes his UFC winning streak to five fights in the main event in Sao Paulo against the dangerous Blaydes.
The heavyweight title picture isn’t entirely clear at the moment with many wondering if and when Stipe Miocic will challenge Jones for the title. With Pavlovich also in the champion mix, the winner of Blaydes vs. Almeida could offer an interesting series of contenders in the heavyweight division.
No other card fights have been announced as of this posting.
