The Denver Nuggets are officially the champions of the NBA, which clearly means they are the biggest talking point in sports circles right now.
Unsurprisingly, this also meant that it was only a matter of time before someone took gratuitous shots at them or tried to eliminate them or belittle what they’ve done this season.
It’s true that the first to publicly fire them was none other than controversial expert Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, who once again seemed to infuriate fellow First Take JJ Redick.

“Celtics ’86 will beat this team in four games… That’s a good team. This isn’t an all-time team. But Jokic is a all-time player.” pic.twitter.com/hRYfrZHXSK

Russo began his statement by guaranteeing that the 1986 Boston Celtics would beat the Nuggets, which is far from surprising, given that he was constantly talking about and caring about the Celtics every time he was on set.
He later promoted Nikola Jokic by saying he is a future Hall of Famer and said he could finish his career as a top 3 offensive center, adding that he is already on the same level as Moses Malone and Hakeem Olajuwon.
Russo believes the Nuggets were a “nice” team, but never a great or great championship team, even saying they could have lost two games that they won.
The Nuggets went 16-4 in the playoffs and lost just one game at home.
They swept the Western Conference Finals and were a bad quarter away from again sweeping the NBA Finals, while being the best team in the conference in the regular season.
That’s literally the definition of dominant and all-time great out there.
