He is moving quickly to replace the outgoing Larry Austin Jr Cheshire Phoenix They announced the signing of US Major General LaQuincy Rideau for the 2023/24 season.
The Florida native last played in Ecuador with the Punto Rojo LR and will be looking to make an immediate impact in the British Basketball League. Rideau spent the last two years of his college career playing in the NCAA Divison I with the South Florida Bulls after transferring from Gardner-Webb University.
Recognized as a tough and resilient defender, Rideau was named Defensive Player of the Year in the prestigious 2019 AAC league. After setting a new American Athletic Conference single-season record (101 per season, 2.89 steals per game), he was the first player in team history to win this prestigious trophy.
Rideau was named to the All-AAC Third Team in 2019 along with some great names in the NBA including Taco Fall, DaQuan Jeffries, and current Euroleague player Jalen Adams.
Rideau began his professional career in Luxembourg, and joined Résidence Walferdange in 2020. He posted 20.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, five assists, and 3.1 steals per game.
After stints in Slovenia with KK Šentjur and Ecuador with Punto Rojo LR, the 27-year-old Raido is poised to make his mark in the British Basketball League and bring his defensive balance to Ben Thomas’ side.
Speaking after his new signing was confirmed, Cheshire Phoenix coach Ben Thomas said:

He’s made such a big difference to the teams he plays for, and we’ve seen that in his professional career so far.” I know how important this upcoming season is to LaQuincy and how focused he is on making sure this is one of his best.”
