The top three teams are set in the Central Division, with Texas winning their first title since 2014 with a win last night. Second-place Milwaukee will face third-place Manitoba in the semifinals. But the rest of the field will come down to the wire, with Iowa, Rockford and Chicago Duchess in the last two invitations to the postseason. Chicago faces Manitoba at 4 ET, with Rockford-Milwaukee and Iowa-Texas closing the AHL’s regular season schedule at 6 ET.
One game still needs to be played in the Atlantic Division, but it affects all six postseason teams in the division. Providence hosts Springfield (3:05 ET) needing a win to capture the division title; The Bruins’ loss gives Hershey first place and keeps Providence in second place.
A Thunderbirds win would catapult Springfield to third, set up a first-round series against sixth-ranked Lehigh Valley and send Charlotte to fourth and meet fifth-ranked Hartford. Losing Springfield means a playoff series swinging between the T’birds and Wolf Pack, while the Phantoms will travel to face the Checkers.
In the North Division, Toronto rounded out first and Syracuse finished second. But a third place — and a first-round bye — is on the line when Rochester visits Cleveland today (3 ET). Amerks needs to beat the monsters to reclaim the third spot and set up a semi-final meeting with Team Crunch; Utica would drop to fourth and face Laval in a best-of-three first-round series. Losing Rochester meant Syracuse-Utica and Rochester-Laval.
The Pacific Division playoff picture is set, as all 10 teams completed a slate of 72 games last night. Calgary smashed the McGregor-Kilpatrick Trophy with the best record in the AHL, finishing with 106 points in a 3-2 victory over Abbotsford. The Wranglers only get the departmental bye; The first round will see Coachella Valley take on Tucson and Colorado take on Ontario, while Abbotsford takes on Bakersfield in a best-of-three series.
