The Phoenix Suns and Chris Paul are exploring multiple avenues to find a win-win solution for both sides in this off-season that includes potential splits and sources. Tell Shams El Shaaranieh, formerly of The Athletic.
Contrary to what Bleach Report’s Chris Haynes reported, Charania explained that both the Suns and Paul are looking into various options that include a trade, a waiver of his contract and an extension over several years, or a waiver and possibly a re-resignation in free agency.
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is as well added That along with Paul, the Suns intend to hire Deandre Ayton for potential trade opportunities that will create significant change within the franchise this offseason.
In the midst of constantly considering Phoenix, Paul reiterated his desire to continue to manage them and compete alongside Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. As such, his representatives have made it clear to the franchise to make the necessary decisions before June 28th.
Paul still has $60.8 million in his contract with The Sun. Only $15.8 million of his $30.8 million salary for 2023-24 has been marked as guaranteed to be earned. The franchise has until the said date to decide whether to assure Paul to finally earn all of his income for next season.
The 38-year-old star showed more signs of aging this season as he played just 59 games and scored 13.9 points – his career low in his 18 years in the NBA.
The potential release and eventual re-signing of Paul will allow the Suns to be more flexible in the case of the extended cap since they also carry the huge deals from Durant, Booker and Ayton.
But should a deal emerge as the top pick, they may at least identify significant trade offers to bolster their roster as Paul is still willing to contribute to any team regardless of his age and injury history.
