Jake Paul is set to date Nate Diaz on August 5th and we can tell Dana White she’s already sick of being asked about it.
While White is on good terms with Logan Paul – he even signed a big money deal to promote his Prime sports drink in the Octagon – Dana and Jake never see eye to eye. “The Problem Child” built his fight sports career from boxing former UFC fighters over the hill, and dozens of hot contestants with the UFC boss didn’t hurt to see him either.
These days, Dana White seems to have realized that the less oxygen he gave Jake Paul, the better. When asked about Paul vs. Diaz at the UFC Kansas City post-match press conference, White Stone sat face-to-face for a few moments as members of the press laughed at his apparent annoyance on the subject.
He finally said: “I don’t want to participate in other people’s fights, like Oscar de la Wierdo.” “But… yeah, no, I don’t want to talk about the fight. It’s just… there isn’t… first of all, none of those guys are my guy, there’s no need for me to comment on it or anything. I hope They get the best, and I hope they win a zillion dollars.”
For some reason, that last part seemed a little sarcastic to us, but who knows.
White was also asked about an interesting quote from a Diaz vs. Paul as Nate said he wants to return to the UFC and win his “belts”.
“We love Nate,” White said, before tempering the expectations. “I don’t know…we’ll see.”
While we’re sure the UFC would love Diaz’s return to the UFC, it’s a real question if they can put up a show that will satisfy the Stockton fighter. Especially after he gets a taste of the money he can make outside of the UFC. If Paul vs. Diaz sells well (and there’s no reason to imagine it won’t), Nate could reach eight figures for a single night of work.
Wyatt also has to wonder what will happen to Diaz’s popularity if he loses. As good as he is, he’s an MMA fighter first and foremost. He’s also a natural fighter at 155 pounds rivaling Paul, who’s down to 185. Bettors definitely don’t expect Nate Ball to break through…they have Jake at -240 vs. Diaz at +180.
So there are a lot of questions that need to be answered before we know if Nate Diaz will end up in the UFC. Just don’t ask them about Dana White during the press conferences, based on his poor response this time.
